Maharashtra: BSP leader Mayawati has strongly criticized the demands for the destruction of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's mausoleum in Nagpur, stating that such an act can spoil the "mutual brotherhood, peace and harmony" of the city. Mayawati urged the Maharashtra government to act strongly against "unruly elements" to see that the situation does not go out of control.

Hundreds of riots engulf Nagpur

Violence erupted in Nagpur after protests over the desecration of the tomb of Aurangzeb turned violent. Unknown individuals looted shops, set cars on fire, and pelted stones, leaving a trail of destruction behind them. Police arrested 50 rioters and imposed curfews in various areas of the city.

Communal tensions simmer

The Nagpur incident is a matter of concern about growing communal tensions in India. With the rumors and false news spreading like fire, the situation can easily go out of control and take the shape of mass violence. The government must take effective measures to stop communal violence and promote peaceful coexistence among various communities.

A call to action: Mayawati asks govt to act

Mayawati's statement once again reiterates the importance of communal peace and harmony. The appeal for action against "unruly elements" shows that the government must do everything in an effort to bring an end to the mounting of further violence.
